Nant-y-Gwyddon – Local Energy Centre

Nant-y-Gwyddon is an old landfill site in Rhondda Cynon Taff. As part of the GSCS project, Infinite developed a 2.3MW wind scheme in Nant-y-Gwyddon with a solar PV and Battery scheme that supplies the office of site operator Amgen.

The wind turbine installed is an Enercon E70 which has a rotor diameter of 70m and a hub height of 85m.The turbine started its life in the Netherlands and was dismantled after its use. Since then, the turbine has been completely refurbished and is now capable of a further 20 years service at Nant-y-Gwyddon. Using a refurbished turbine has a huge impact on lowering the carbon footprint of the development.

As part of the renewable energy scheme at Nant-y-Gwyddon, an annual community fund has been set up to provide grant funding to worthy causes in the area throughout the life of the project.

The grant is administered by Infinite and each year, community charities and local groups within 5km of the Energy Centre can apply for a grant worth up to £500. Groups from the following communities are able to apply: Pentre, Treorchy, Tonypandy, Ferndale, Tylorstown, Ynyshir and Maerdy. Two bidding rounds are held annually – one in March and the other in October. For further information on how to apply for the grant, email us at hello@infiniterenewables.com or use our contact form.
