The Royal Mint, Llantrisant Business Park – Local Energy Centre

Royal MintInfinite Renewables have been working with The Royal Mint since 2016 to assist them in decarbonising their high-power usage. The local energy centre, developed by Infinite, has supported The Royal Mint’s ambitions to be Net Zero by 2050. Infinite was the winner of the Royal Mints ‘Net Zero Contributor Award’ in 2024.

The first stage of the energy centre was the development of the iconic ‘Daffodil’ 850kW turbine on behalf of the Royal Mint. Infinite secured planning permission and managed the construction of the turbine on behalf of the Royal Mint, who now own the turbine.

Phase 2 commenced in 2022 with the construction of a 2MW solar farm that directly connects into the Mint and a 2MW Combined Heat and Power engine and 400kW dual chemistry battery. This solution is fully funded with a PPA agreement between The Royal Mint and Infinite.

The final element of the Energy Centre was a 900kW turbine built in 2023 on adjacent land and directly connected into the Mint. The Energy Centre currently supplies around 75% of the Royal Mint’s electricity demand.

In 2025, the Micro Grid was extended to a neighbouring manufacturing unit on the business park, widening the benefits of the Energy Centre and creating a local renewable hub.
