Liz and Nick Down have a range of self-catering cottages on a small dairy farm near Truro in Cornwall. They installed an Endurance 3120 55kW wind turbine back in November 2012 to take advantage of the generous Feed in Tariff and to provide a green energy supply to their farm and holiday cottage business.
After a lightening strike, years of breakdown and spiralling maintenance costs with their existing machine they decided to look at alternative turbines. The BestWatt range of turbines manufactured in the Netherlands were identified as a suitable replacement for the Endurance turbine. After meeting Rengineers (the owners of BestWatt) they decided to install the BestWatt BW80 turbine on their existing 24.5m tower.
Liz and Nick said – ‘The BestWatt 80kW turbine was installed on 28/29th Jan 2026 and was completed within two days. The Engineers from BestWatt could not have been more helpful. We have been delighted with the whole process, and the turbine has been operating without any issues since it was commissioned. The generation figures have been impressive with over 26,000kwh produced to date’. We would not hesitate in recommending the BestWatt range of turbines for other repowering projects. The 20-year service contract gives us the peace of mind that the turbine will provide high availability with certainty of future maintenance costs. If something does go wrong the Engineers are ore on hand to deal with it without delay.
Infinite Renewables are the authorised distributors for BestWatt turbines for Wales and the Southwest. Director Iestyn Morgan said – ‘the installation of the BestWatt BW80 provides an extremely cost-effective solution for the repowering of older wind turbines. The payback on investment is typically 2-4 years, well within the remaining FiT period on most sites’.
Gerhard de Pater, sales manager at Rengineers said – ‘we have repowered around 80 old turbines and we are working closely with our partners Infinite Renewables to repower many more site in Wales and the Southwest. In addition to repowering the Endurance turbines we also offer repowering solutions for the C&F, Bergey Harbon, Orenda, Argosie, AOC and Evance range of turbines as well as many other makes. In most cases we can use the existing foundation and the tower in some instances which helps reduce the overall cost of repowering. With our 20-year insurance backed maintenance service contract (Garant) we are confident that our clients will have trouble free generation from the BestWatt range of wind turbines. As a family run business for almost 30 years, we pride ourselves in providing a high-quality service to all of our customers.’
