In the heart of Bridgend, Wales, Infinite Renewables is quietly redefining how renewable energy is created, experienced and shared. Founded in 2010, the company began life as a specialist wind turbine developer, creating merchant wind power schemes for commercial clients. From the outset, Infinite set out not simply to generate energy, but to rethink how power could be delivered locally, efficiently and responsibly.

Their early business model was both practical and forward looking. Infinite entered into Power Purchase Agreements, supplying locally generated wind power directly to businesses through private wire connections. This approach reduced reliance on the national grid while giving customers long term price certainty and a tangible connection to the energy they were using. With investment support from Albion Capital, Infinite achieved its ambition to co own and operate a growing portfolio of turbine developments, laying strong foundations for future growth.

Infinite Renewables Wales and the Development Bank of Wales has completed and delivered the first off-grid, commercial renewable energy system on the Gower Peninsula, south Wales at the request of their client Salix River and Wetland Services Ltd.

The system comprises a 15kWp solar PV system, battery energy storage scheme, inverter/charger, electric vehicle fast charger and control system that provides a 100% autonomous power system.

The system was commissioned at the beginning of February 2025 and worked very effectively during poor solar irradiation levels. Infinite designed the system according to Salix’s specific requirements. It has been fitted with an air-source heat pump, and can accommodate a small wind charger if energy demand increases in the winter.

David Holland Managing Director of Salix Ltd. Stated, “We are delighted with the off-grid power system and the service provided by Infinite Renewables. The Bryniau Bach (Little Hills) site is located on a SSSI so harnessing renewable energy to deliver electricity to our new building was a major priority. The scheme has exceeded our expectations, and we are actively looking at a number of other sites in West Wales to deliver similar technologies such as our Seagrass project in Pendine.”

Iestyn Morgan commented, “It’s been a pleasure working with Salix to deliver their off grid renewable scheme, and we look forward to delivering further projects for Salix in Wales.”

Ashley Jones, Senior Investment Executive at the Development Bank of Wales, said: “Businesses across Wales are looking for ways to cut their energy use and make their operations more sustainable. Infinite Renewables Wales are there to deliver projects exactly like this, and it’s excellent to see that they’ve been able to provide the new facility which Salix needed.”

The project has been fully funded by Infinite Renewables Wales, with the energy savings used to pay for the system under a long-term power purchase agreement.

The Royal Mint Supplier Workshop & Recognition Awards 2024 has recognised the huge contribution that Infinite Renewables has made to enable it to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 54%.

The multi-technology Local Energy Centre (LEC) supplied by Infinite has been integral to helping The Royal Mint decarbonise its own operations, and specifically in reducing its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Measured against a baseline year of FY21/22, emissions from on-site energy use had reduced by 54% at the end of FY23/24. This achievement is primarily due to the generation of renewable and lower carbon electricity from the LEC.

Infinite Renewables Wales (IRW) will work with its equity partner the Development Bank of Wales to support Welsh commerce to secure a more sustainable future for Wales. By working together, IRW and the Development Bank can offer unique funding and renewable solutions to businesses right across Wales, including agriculture, rural businesses, tourism, engineering, food and drink and the service industry.

The aim is to make it easier for a business to access renewable energy whilst reducing its energy costs and improving its environmental credentials. To that end, IRW can establish how much energy is needed to operate a business and calculate how much renewable energy a business could produce to meet its power needs, recommend the most suitable renewable energy solution, manage the legal and regulatory aspects of an installation and agree a fair and competitive power price. IRW would also manage the system on the business’s behalf for the lifetime of the project. A business would not incur capital costs and would have an option to purchase the system in the future.

Infinite Director, Andrew Crossman said, “This is an exciting opportunity to route funded renewable solutions to high energy consuming businesses in Wales. We are especially interested to hear from owner occupiers or landlords who are keen to have roof solar installed to provide their business tenants with discounted energy. Solar power can be used in conjunction with ground and air source heat pumps to mitigate the running costs of the heat pumps, providing both a power and heating solution.”

Ashley Jones, Senior Investment Executive at the Development Bank of Wales, said: “It was a pleasure to work with Infinite in setting up the new service, which will allow a wider range of business to access renewable energy generation and cut their energy costs, while removing much of the bureaucracy and initial costs normally involved. We know more and more businesses are interested in switching to greener energy sources, and the support provided via IRW will help even more businesses to make that change.”

About Infinite

Infinite Renewables is a specialist renewable energy developer based in South Wales. Established in 2010, the team has decades of professional experience in developing and installing low carbon, sustainable microgrids for business communities.

About the Development Bank of Wales

The Development Bank of Wales was established by the Welsh government to support businesses in Wales with strong social, ethical and environmental standards. Its mission is to unlock potential in the Welsh economy and increase the provision of sustainable effective finance.

The Clean energy for EU islands secretariat, an initiative of the European Commission, is the central platform for the clean energy transition of more than 2,200 inhabited European islands. Despite having access to renewable sources of energy, such as wind and wave energy, many of them depend on expensive fossil fuel imports for their energy supply. Islands all over Europe are accelerating their clean energy transition, and their stories are truly inspiring! The Clean energy for EU islands secretariat supports Europe’s islands in their journey with technical support, capacity-building activities and networking opportunities.

In his declaration of support, on behalf of Infinite Renewables, Director Iestyn Morgan said: “We share the ambition to support island communities to enhance their wellbeing and resilience by assisting them in realising their transition to clean energy resources.”

Infinite Renewables’ goals in this venture are: (1). To support the members of the Clean energy for EU islands initiative with its expertise and experience by ensuring relevant and accurate advice for the island communities in order that they can proceed with their clean energy transition agendas which include their decarbonisation plans and financing concepts. (2). To share knowledge, experiences, best practice, tools or resources relevant to the members of the Clean energy for EU islands initiative. (3). To promote the Clean energy for EU islands initiative, mobilising existing and potential new members of the Clean energy for EU islands community and (4). Collaborating with other supporting organisations of the Clean energy for EU islands initiative to strengthen island communities to foster their joint and co-ordinated clean energy action.

Iestyn Morgan went on to say, “The path towards full decarbonisation of EU islands requires concerted action and a collective effort and we are delighted to join the Community of committed EU Islands and support organisations to demonstrate that a clean energy future for EU islands and beyond is possible.”

Iolo Williams, naturalist and broadcaster was at the Royal Mint Experience on Monday, 3rd of July to announce the winner and to present certificates and prizes to the 6 finalists of our Clean Energy poster competition.

The competition included an invitation for the finalists, along with class members to spend time at The Royal Mint Experience where they struck their own coins and discovered some of the ways The Royal Mint is working towards a more sustainable future.

The competition came about to mark the success of a five-year renewables project by Infinite, in part, to educate children from a very young age about the impact of climate change. Infinite invited Year 6 classes from schools in all six of its Local Energy Centre catchment areas in South Wales to create a bi-lingual ‘Clean Energy’ poster.

The aim of the competition was to have children take an inquiry approach to energy and sustainability in their daily lives. Its focus was to help to develop young peoples’ knowledge across a range of topics such as energy sources, efficiency, conservation and climate change. It sought to help children understand the concept and environmental benefits of clean energy as Wales moves towards a net zero carbon future.

The Local Energy Centres are part of the GSCS project which has been part-funded by the European Development Fund through the Welsh Government and Albion Capital.

Overall winner was Faith Pengelly of Ysgol Gynradd Gymunedol Gymraeg Llantrisant.

Other finalists:

Cayla House, Penrhys Primary School.

Evie Mai Morgan-Joyce, Oaklands Primary School.

Kenzie Williams, Tonyrefail Community School

Lucy Leigh, Llwynypia Primary School

Marni Thomas, Llwyncrwn Primary School
