Rassau Industrial Estate – Local Energy Centre

Rassau Industrial EstateGS Yuasa on Rassau Industrial Estate is part of the integrated Energy Centre developed by Infinite that helps to drive the nation towards Net Zero. The multi-technology energy centre, which includes solar photovoltaics, a wind turbine and battery storage, was designed to provide power to local businesses including GS Yuasa Manufacturing.

The centre is one of six local energy centre schemes developed and managed by Infinite under the ‘Generation Storage Consumption Supply’ (GSCS) project in Wales, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Rassau Industrial EstateA unique element of the development is the combined use of lithium-ion and lead-acid in a single battery storage system (BESS). The BESS stores the power created by the renewable generation and allows the power to be time-shifted and used at a later stage. The BESS is designed to be easily integrated into any renewable energy micro-grid configuration.

The 1MWh on-roof solar PV array was installed initially and once planning was consented for the EWT 900kW wind turbine, the turbine was built and connected into GS Yuasa. The wind turbine generates c2,000 MWh annually.
