In collaboration with Remade Britain and a British energy supplier, Infinite brought the BestWatt turbine named Gusty Spinfield to Dalston in London to support Remade Britain’s campaign. The purpose of the event was to demonstrate how quickly renewable energy could be implemented without planning or grid constraints. Infinite successfully project managed the 45kW turbine installation and had it up and running in just two days. Infinite managed the delivery, installation, monitoring and operation of the turbine during its time in London and managed its decommissioning.

Remade Britain is a campaign that promotes economic growth through focusing on building infrastructure in the UK faster. The campaign aims to deliver new homes, clean energy and transport infrastructure faster through reforming the planning system.

Gusty Spinfield is part of the ‘try before you buy’ scheme which allows communities to try out a wind turbine in their neighbourhood. Infinite has relocated the turbine to a range of locations including Alexandra Palace in London, Glastonbury in Somerset and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage. Infinite is an authorised supplier of BestWatt small scale turbines.

Köpenicker Strasse, Berlin – Mobile Wind Turbine – BestWatt15

In collaboration with a major energy supplier, Infinite supplied a 15kW mobile turbine, otherwise known as Fat Boy Spin, to Berlin to support the WIRED Energy Tech Summit. Fat Boy Spin is a BestWatt 15kW turbine decorated with vibrant purples and pinks. The 15kW turbine is smaller in size than the original Gusty 45kW turbine and with a lower tower height of 15m. The turbine was installed on Köpenicker Strasse, Berlin for the one day of the tech summit.

Infinite supplied the purple and pink turbine and project managed the development, selecting the turbine location, installing the turbine and managing the operation during its stay at Berlin. Once delivered onsite, the turbine was built in just 8 hours.

Infinite has relocated the larger Gusty Spinfield 45kW turbine to a range of locations including Alexandra Palace in London, Glastonbury in Somerset and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage. Infinite Renewables managed the installation of the temporary turbine named ‘Gusty Spinfield’ for the Kaleidoscope Festival 2024 and summer series of concerts at Alexandra Palace. The 45kW BestWatt turbine moved to Alexandra Palace after its installation at Glastonbury. Gusty is 20 metres tall with 8 metre long blades covered in pink and purple. Infinite also designed a bespoke ballasted foundation for the installation. During Alexandra Palace’s ‘Summer Season’ which hosted an array of outdoor concerts, the turbine helped to power bars and food stands.

Alexandra Palace’s ambition is to be sustainable in everything they do and to reduce their impact on the environment. Utilising the temporary wind turbine allowed the venue to trial green energy and explore longer term renewable energy opportunities.

River Cottage, Devon – Mobile Wind Turbine – Bestwatt45

Gusty Spinfield, a 45kW Bestwatt turbine, continued its travels to Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage after a successful week at Glastonbury Music Festival. Infinite worked in collaboration with a major energy supplier to bring renewable energy to River Cottage for a month. The turbine tower is 20 metres tall, spray-painted purple with tentacle decor and pink blades that measure 8 metres long. Infinite designed the ballasted foundation for the installation and project managed the development which included the planning, layout and installation of the mobile turbine.

The turbine powered 4 EV charging points that could be used by drivers for free. Additionally, the cottage reached out to local schools and offered free educational visits to teach students about the power of renewable energy.

Glastonbury – Mobile Wind Turbine – BestWatt45

In 2023, Infinite Renewables was approached by Octopus Energy Generation to supply and deliver a temporary installation of a 45kW BestWatt wind turbine, also known as ‘Gusty Spinfield’, for Glastonbury Festival. At the end of the 2023 festival, Gusty Spinfield was taken down and was re-installed for another appearance at the festival in 2024.

The turbine tower is 20 metres tall with 8 metre long blades covered in the bold pink and purple colours of Octopus Energy. Food stalls on the festival grounds were powered by the turbine rather than the diesel generators that are usually used. Up to 300kWh per day was being produced and helped save 379kg of CO2 emissions.

Dubai COP28 – Mobile Local Energy Centres – BestWatt45

In 2023, Infinite Renewables supplied 5 x energy centres at COP28 in Dubai for a UK-based energy supplier. Each of the mobile energy centres included a 45kW wind turbine, a trailered 3.6kW solar system and 120kW battery storage system (BESS). The project was delivered within 12 weeks thanks to the amazing efforts from the teams involved.

Mobile turbine bases were designed by Infinite Renewables and manufactured in Wales in the UK. Instead of the turbine foundations being installed into the ground, the steel foundation sits on top of it, enabling the foundation to be easily re-deployed and thereby reducing the environmental impact of turbine. Each BW45 turbine in Dubai was installed on a mobile ballasted foundation base that weighed over 120 tons.

The turbines, built in the Netherlands and Germany, were upwind, stall regulated design and supplied 3 phase power. Cut in wind speed was 3.5m per second and cut out wind speed was 25mps (wind of 60mph).

The BESS and Solar System were integrated in a trailer for plug and play mobile deployment.
