Sherbro Island, Sierra Leone – Project Management – Renewable Energy Centre

A major British energy supplier plans to develop a renewable energy centre on the main town of Bonthe on Sherbro Island, Sierra Leone. The development will consist of 5 x Bestwatt B45 wind turbines integrated with solar Battery Energy Storage units (BESS). Infinite are working closely with the supplier to deliver the project in 2025. The island’s remote location, lack of transport infrastructure and availability of specialist contractors and suppliers presents a number of challenges for the development.

Following a visit to Sherbro Island to assess the area, Infinite produced a development plan for the renewable energy scheme at Bonthe. The plan identified eight key stages that addressed the challenges of the development. These stages included investigations to confirm the location of the scheme, preparing access and turbine infrastructure, shipping and transport logistics planning, installation and integration of the wind turbines and BESS.

Sark, Channel Islands – Renewable Energy Centre

In 2022, Infinite were commissioned to assist the Isle of Sark in their goal of building an updated, island-owned electricity system. As Sark is a small island with no cars or lorries, the project presents unique challenges. Infinite has embraced these challenges and is excited to develop renewable energy for the island.

The proposed Energy Centre includes 2 x 225kW wind turbines, a 510kWp solar farm, 750 kWa batteries and 3 x 350kVa diesel generators and a micro-grid controller which will prioritise the use of renewables. The renewable energy centre will replace the current system to help transition Sark to greener power with an estimated 80% of the island’s power coming from renewable sources. The system will be adaptable to the future needs of the island while providing a low carbon and reliable energy supply.

The design phase was completed following a presentation of the scheme to islanders in March 2025.

Construction will start once funding is secured by Sark’s government.
